Senior Behavioral Health Center
The Senior Behavioral Health Center provides inpatient hospitalization services for adults 55 and older who are experiencing acute psychiatric problems. The 12 bed center is located in it's own discreet space within the hospital to assure privacy and confidentiality. Patients come for assistance with severe depression, hallucinations that may be secondary to Alzheimer's or Dementia, bipolar illness, and a variety of other psychiatric illnesses.
Our patients require different services than do younger adults with psychiatric problems. As we age and our ability to walk, to see, to drive, and to maintain independence may lessen. Older individuals become isolated, friends and family die, it is a major undertaking to leave the house. Many times, meals are eaten alone and visitors are scarce...
We recognize the different needs of the older population and the issues that may be associated with aging. It is not normal to have depression, cognitive decline, confusion or memory loss at any age. If you know someone 55 or older who is not eating and has weight loss, sleeping excessively or very little, has lost interest in previously pleasurable activity, is more isolative, or complains that life is not worth living - call the center for a free assessment at (860) 364-4288.
Some of the services we provide:
- All patients have a psychiatrist and internist or general practitioner working as a team to detect both psychiatric illness and other medical conditions which may be contributing or underlying factors to the current problem.
- Comprehensive diagnostic assessments which may include Lab Testing, Neurological Evaluation, CT Scan, MRI, EEG, Neuro-psychological Testing, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy assessments and treatment, and other medical specialist consultation that may be needed.
- Assist patients with the activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and walking; develop Treatment Plans to help patients to be as independent as possible.
- Family services to help patients and their families make plans for the future and changes to living situations. Staff can help families understand what is happening to their loved one and what they can do to help.
- Set-up of services that assist the patient in being successful in returning home.
